As you can see, VA jobs cover many different admin functions. As a VA, you just do the work you know best, don’t worry about the other jobs you can’t (yet) do! You’ll be surprised just how many long-term clients are gained by this first job you do for them.
Also, don’t think that the cheapest person gets the work – it’s simply not true. A worthwhile new client will know that to get the best they have to pay fair rates. Mostly, people bidding low for jobs will not have the skills, or haven’t read the brief, or simply do not give the skills buyer confidence …. so bid at a fair rate, a rate you’re prepared to do the work for – build up your reputation, build your VA client list faster – and be working fiull-time as a VA sooner than you thought you would!
Transcriptionists Wanted For Immediate Start
Transcriptionists are wanted for immediate start every day when you’re a freelance transcriptionist. Jobs range from one-off requirements, to long-term transcription jobs.
A lot of transcription work will be from audio tapes, where somebody’s recorded an interview, or a series of interviews, and now they need it typing up. Some of them will then take what’s been typed up and hire translators to translate it into other languages, but you don’t have to think about that, your job is simply to transcribe the tape you’re given.
I’ve personally done transcription work for some Government departments, transcribing short interviews they had on their website.
As a freelancer, you simply bid for the jobs you can do and quote the rate you will work for. Once you’re picked you usually start immediately and the work turnaround times can be quite short; you’re then paid once they sign the job off – so for fast cash freelancing can really work well.

Transcription Equipment
Depending on the type of work you’re doing, as a transcriptionist you might need to get a transcription machine for playing back tapes – or a foot pedal and software for playing back digital files.

Other tools of the trade transcriptionists have to hand are specialist dictionaries – and books about style – some specialisms have specific styles in which documents need to be produced, so transcriptionists will keep a reference book handy in case they need to just check something. A dictionary and a thesaurus are handy too, although online sources for these are increasingly used.
